We often are asked how difficult it is to immigrate to Canada as an older person. Surprisingly, there are many options for people in their 40s or older.
Work Permits that could lead to Permanent Residence
Age is usually not a significant factor when someone is applying for a work permit. After you come to Canada on a work permit often you can qualify for permanent residence.
Provincial Nominee Skilled Worker and Business Programs
Remember that in Canada, provinces can select immigrants. So the state level government can make their own rules. For example, in British Columbia, their skilled worker point system does not consider age at all! Other provinces put less weight on age than the federal Express Entry system does.
May provinces also have business immigration programs that favour older applicants or weigh age very little.
Self-Employed Persons Program
The Federal Self-Employed Persons Program aims to attract self-employed individuals with relevant experience in cultural activities, athletics, or farm management, to contribute to the Canadian economy.
Age is not a significant factor in this type of application.
To be eligible for the Federal Self-Employed Program, you must have at least two years of relevant experience in the past five years. You must also score a minimum of 35 points on the selection criteria, which takes into account factors such as age, education, language proficiency, experience, and adaptability.
Family Sponsorship
If you have family members in Canada, age is usually not a factor for you to immigrate.
